Stuart A. Randle, President and CEO
Prior to joining GI Dynamics, Stuart was an Entrepreneur In Residence at Advanced Technology Ventures. Prior to ATV, he was the president and CEO at ACT Medical, Inc., where he was responsible for developing and executing a new strategy that resulted in the sale of the company to MedSource Technologies, Inc. in 2001. Stuart went to ACT Medical from Allegiance Healthcare Corporation, where he was a corporate officer and helped plan and execute the spin-off from Baxter International. Previously, he spent 10 years with Baxter in various senior management positions and was responsible for launching the world’s first needle-less IV system. Stuart earned an MBA from The Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University.
Andy Levine, Chief Technology Officer
Andy has 27 years of engineering and medical device research, development and manufacturing experience. He holds 23 patents and has 16 publications to his name. Andy has developed and commercialized products with applications in cardiovascular medicine, gynecology, general surgery, thoracic surgery and urology. He possesses technical expertise in biomaterials, mechanism design, fluid mechanics and heat transfer. Prior to founding GI Dynamics, Andy was an independent consultant to the medical device industry and co-founder of Seedling Enterprises, a medical device incubator. Previously, he served in various high level engineering positions with Boston Scientific Corporation, Microsurge, Bard Reproductive Systems, Thermedics and Thermo Electron. Andy holds a M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.S. in mechanical engineering, Magna Cum Laude, from Tufts University.
Robert Crane, Chief Financial Officer
Robert Crane is a seasoned executive with strong general management and financial experience who has had involvement at all levels in starting, building, and turning around healthcare companies. Bob has extensive experience with public and private companies, corporate partnerships in the U.S., Europe and Japan, private and public fundraising, sale of companies and product lines and the acquisition of companies and technologies. Bob also currently serves as chief financial officer at MicroCHIPS, Predictive Biosciences and Protein Forest. Companies for which Bob has served as chief financial officer include Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, Microsulis, Seragen, Circe Biomedical, I-STAT and Inkine. Bob was also Chairman of the American Bicycle Group. Previously Bob was a partner at Montgomery Ventures, a venture capital investor in medical and IT businesses. Bob earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering at MIT, and his MBA from Stanford.
Jonathan T. Hartmann, Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Jonathan has 19 years of experience in Medical Device Sales, Marketing and Business Development. He brings extensive management experience from both large companies and start up medical device companies. Jonathan spent 6 years with Guidant Corporation in Marketing and Sales in Cardiac Rhythm Management and in Corporate Marketing. In the early '90s, he worked with U.S. Surgical to launch novel laparoscopic devices, then spent 4 years with W.L. Gore in the medical products business. His small company experience includes Urologix where he was a market development manager for a new treatment for Prostate Disease, and he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing with Cyberkinetics Neurotechnology Systems, which was developing a new implantable neuro-technology device for treating spinal cord injury. Jonathan earned his BS from St. Lawrence University, and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
Sherrie Coval-Goldsmith, Vice President of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs
Prior to joining GI Dynamics, Sherrie was Vice President of Regulatory/Quality and Clinical Affairs at Neothermia where she was responsible for developing and implementing GMP, GLP and GCP systems to support the transition of products from R&D to the clinic. She was also responsible for providing regulatory and clinical guidance for all active IDEs. Previously, she served in a series of regulatory/quality/clinical affairs positions including Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at Nitinol Medical Technologies and Director of Regulatory Affairs at Institute of Molecular Biology, Stryker Biotech and the Vascular Systems Division of C.R. Bard. Sherrie holds an M.S. in Public Health from Tufts University and a B.A. in Biology from Clark University.
