An Innovative Solution
An Innovative New Treatment
The EndoBarrier® Gastrointestinal Liner represents a new, non-surgical treatment for patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity. Clinical trials to date in more than 500 patients have shown that the EndoBarrier technology is a safe and effective treatment for type 2 diabetes and obesity, demonstrating the ability of the EndoBarrier to rapidly affect blood glucose control and achieve significant weight loss during the implant period, while also demonstrating improvements in coronary risk factors including cholesterol and blood pressure over time.
Using the EndoBarrier, many patients are also able to decrease their dosage of oral anti-diabetes medications during the implant period.
In addition, clinical experience has shown:
- Serum glucose levels can drop significantly within the weeks immediately following the EndoBarrier implant – often achieving normal levels.
- HbA1c levels can also show substantial improvement and can reach normal levels at three months and can be maintained for a period of time after device removal with a multidisciplinary support program.
- Patients lose significant weight during the implant period, which is believed to have long-term impact on levels of insulin resistance.
- Patients report reduced appetite when using the EndoBarrier.
- When patients participate in a multidisciplinary support program, including behavior modification and nutritional counseling and exercise, the benefits achieved while the device is in place can be extended. The duration of this effect may vary with patient compliance.
- The EndoBarrier has demonstrated sustained benefits on glycemic control and weight loss up to six months post-explant.
The EndoBarrier is addressing the large unmet medical needs of the growing population of type 2 diabetic and obese patients worldwide. GI Dynamics currently markets the EndoBarrier in select regions in Europe, South America and Australia, and is planning near-term commercial expansion into additional markets. The EndoBarrier is not approved for sale in the United States and is considered investigational.
